Lincsquad Youth Academy Pace Their Way to Admirable Time Trial Results
The Lincsquad Youth Academy built on their strong start in the 2012 club road cycling time trial championships fielding 6 members in the latest round that saw a total of 30 riders. Wet and windy conditions reminded all involved that it was still early in the season but with many having endured a winter of cyclocross they were not at all deterred.
Simon Beedham was first of the Youth Academy members on the results sheet, taking 7th place overall; pushing to better the seasons best he set in the first round. His time of 24:46 saw him achieve that by 37 seconds. Christopher Durham was the next youth with 15th place overall posting 27:15; a new personal best by 41 seconds and Jack Garner was the third youth with 29:46.
The gusty easterly wind forced riders’ to work hard to the mid-point turn and gave little help on the run back to the finish. This made pacing a particular challenge however recent coaching work in this area lead the Youth Academy members to fair better than average with most crossing the line having just given their all.
Louise Beedham and Andrea Yates joined the series for the first time this round, making solid starts with times of 30:56 and 35:49 respectively. Ewan Chesman was just 1:27 off the personal best he set two weeks ago, recording a time of 32:32 as 5th youth home.
Overall times ranged from 22:47 to 35:49 for the 9.7mile course and full details of all riders and finishing times can be found under the results section of the Lincsquad forum at www.lincsquad.co.uk.
With two rounds of the eleven event series completed the majority of riders are only beginning to approach their ultimate pace for the season, and with just six events needing to be completed by Lincsquad members for championship eligibility the number of contenders is set to broaden further in the coming weeks.
The next time trial will be starting at 6:30pm on the 9th May and they will run fortnightly thereafter. All tie trials are conducted under the rules and regulations of the CTT. All entrants meet at the King William pub in Scawby Brook from 6pm for registration.
