At the roundabout turn left and proceed west to Richmond Gate (2.9m). At the Richmond Gate roundabout turn left and proceed south towards Kingston Gate. Beware of the speed bump by the entrance to Pembroke Lodge Car Park (at 3.3m). Circle the mini-roundabout by Kingston Gate (4.9m) and retrace back to start (9.8m). Competitor information:-
This event is one of two planned pilot events taking place in August 2009. The events are classified as “club”, “come and try events” and will be run in accordance with CTT rules and regulations. Results will be made available on the CTT website as soon as possible after the event. In the event that the two pilots are a success, this may lead to a 5-7 race series in the Park in 2010.
Parking will be available in Sheen Gate car park only. Any competitor who intends to use a turbo is kindly requested to park on the south of the car park, rather than against the back wall to avoid disturbing local residents.
Competitors are requested not to warm up on the course once the event has commenced. The recommended warm up routes are as follows:-
1) The road between Sheen Gate and Pen Ponds car park, via the ballet school. (Beware of competitors while crossing the course on Sawyers Hill).
2) The road between Pen Ponds car park and the Isabella Plantation
3) On Broomfield Hill (which does not form part of the course for safety reasons)
To reach the start, descend down to Robin Hood Gate via Martin’s pond. Toilet facilities will be available at the start. Riders will be sent off at 30 second intervals starting at 6.00am. The last rider off will depart by 7.00am.
Start times will be emailed to competitors on or before Friday 7th August.
Important safety information – please take the time to read carefully
While the Park gates officially open to public traffic by 7.00am, local residents and delivery drivers may be circulating in the park before this time. As the gates are opened in rotation, some gates may be open before 7.00am. Marshalls will be on hand to warn all incoming motorists that a cycling event is in progress. Marshalls will also be available at all junctions and roundabouts. Cyclists must give way to traffic as appropriate at roundabouts and junctions.
There are some 650+ deer grazing in Richmond Park, as well as other wildlife such as rabbits and foxes which may cross the course and therefore be potential hazards for competitors. Riders are responsible for their own safety and the safety and wellbeing of the surrounding wildlife and must therefore be vigilant while riding.
The event is to be held wholly within Richmond Park, which is part of the Royal Parks organisation. Competitors participate entirely at their own risk and it is their responsibility to safely negotiate the course. No liability whatever shall attach to the Royal Parks, promoter, promoting club or any officials of the event, Cycling Time Trials or any club affiliated thereto for any injury loss or damage suffered by a rider, in or by reason of the event, however such may be caused and whether by negligence or otherwise.
Cycling Time Trials and London Dynamo Cycling Club strongly advise the use of a hard shell helmet meeting internationally approved safety standards
