Former National hill climb champion Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) was on a roll this weekend notching up three wins, two on Saturday the other on Sunday.

Saturday morning saw him take the Holme Valley Wheelers event ahead of Cycling Time Trials Scholarship rider Josh Teasdale (EFC Omega Phama Quickstep), 6-59.1, and Sam Ward Otley CC), 7-03.8. Clinton clocked 6-37.6.

The afternoon’s Huddersfield Star Wheelers success put Clinton, 4-21.3, ahead of Ward, 4-38.6, and Ben Gillespie (Saddleworth Clarion), 4-45.3, while Teasdale finished fifth at 26 seconds.

Best of the women in the Holme Valley promotion was Nicola Soden (Max Gear RT), 9-15.9, while Kath Farquhar (Holme Valley Wheelers) was first of the ladies in the afternoon with her 6-52.3.

Clinton’s third win came in the Lyme RC event at Mow Cop where a course record 4-24.8 put him over 15 seconds clear of runner up Lee Baldwin (Buxton CC), Third placed Charles Taylor (South Pennine RC) was at a further nine seconds.

Baldwin came in to his own in the Rutland CC event on the longer Mam Nick where he took first with 6-43, 11 seconds up on James Allen (Sheffrec CC) and 25 seconds ahead of Matt Sumpton (RST RT).

The South’s classic Catford CC hill climb on Yorks fell to Robert Gough (Arctic-SRAM), a 1-54.8 putting him four seconds ahead of Matthew Pilkington (Team Bglobal). Zappi’s CC’s Matthew Steven was third with a 2-01.1. Lydia Boylan (Look Mum No Hands) took the women’s prize with a 2-38.1.

A massive £5,000 prize list encouraged the competitors in the Bec CC event at Titsey and it was Jack Pullar (Wheelbase), winner on Monsal last weekend, who took the lions share. Pullar set a new course record of 1-42.9 despite the headwind conditions. Current national hill climb champion Gunnar Gronlund (RST-Trigon) finished in second place with 1-45.7 with Jake Hales (IG-Sigma Sport) claiming third with 1-52.1. Lydia Boylan repeated her Catford success, a 2-33.3 earning her the women’s award.
