A week before the RTTC National hill climb championship defending champion Gunnar Gronlund (RST RT-Trigon) showed he is coming to form at the right time. Sunday saw him win the Chesterfield Coureurs hill climb for the second successive year on top of that Gronlund led his team to success in the team race backed by second placed Matt Sumpton and first woman Alex Deck. Former champion Mark Lovatt (Planet X) filled the final podium place. (See result for full report).

Tejvan Pettinger (Sri Chinmoy CT) was another to repeat a 2011 win, the North Lancashire RC event. His 3-39.0 put him 17 seconds clear of Matt Pilkington (Team Bglobal). Junior James Knox (Kent Valley Wheelers) was third with 3-56.7.

Pettinger’s win was his second of the weekend, having added the Nelson Wheelers hill climb to his tally. A 3-32.0 left him with a winning margin of 28 seconds over Mark Tickle (Leigh Premier).

Yorkshire RC’s event at Cragg Vale saw Sam Ward (Otley CC) notch up a decisive win, his 15-49.5 leaving second placed Peter Greenwood (Clayton Velo) 24 seconds adrift.

Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) ran out the overall winner of the two-headed Matlock CC hill climbs. Clinton finished in second spot over Riber Bank behind Lee Baldwin (Buxton CC) and then took first place on Bank Road ahead of Baldwin and James Allen (Sheffrec CC).

The ESCA hill climb stayed with 2011 winner Peter Tadros (In Gear Quickvit-Trainsharp), a 3-49.0 giving him an eight second advantage over runner up Dan Gardner (Lewes Wanderers).

Robert Gough (Arctic-SRAM) prevented a Bristol South CC clean sweep in their club’s promotion. The club provided first, third and fourth thanks to Paul Jones, Tavis Walker and Glyndwr Griffiths with Gough in second.
